Love is the self-delusion we manufacture to justify the trouble we take to have sex.
-- Dan Greenburg
LOVE.....probably the most emotionally charged word in any language! Used to describe everything from an infant's smile when it sees its mother to the idealized ecstasy of a religious conversion, "love" has been the inspiration for a wide range of human actions from the creation of art and poetry to the destructive act of jealous murder. It is the "holy grail" of every individual, male or female; and we seek it from the moment of our birth to our last breath. In this section, we will explore such topics as the meaning of "love," how to recognize it, how to incubate and fan its flames, and how to preserve it in long-term relationships.
To set the stage for this most dramatic of subjects, we define "love" as those positive feelings of happiness and contentment that individuals experience when they think of, or are in the presence of, the object of their love. There are also negative emotions associated with love, such as jealousy, possessiveness and obsession, and we aspire to illuminate their origin as well as help you understand and gain control over them. Our concept of "love" is that of author Emma Goldman, when she described it as "Love, the strongest and deepest element in all life, the harbinger of hope, of joy, of ecstasy; love, the defier of all laws, of all conventions; love, the freest, the most powerful moulder of human destiny..."
